Rosatom’s Stampriet Uranium Plan: Do the Numbers Add Up? Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, through its Namibian operating company, plans to mine 3,000 tonnes of uranium per year over a 25-year lifespan, amounting to 75,000 tonnes of production. At an estimated 80% mining efficiency, the project would require approximately 100,000 tonnes of uranium to sustain operations. However, the Nuclear Energy Agency’s Uranium 2024: Resources, Production and Demand report indicates that only 14,829 tonnes of uranium are currently classified as available in Namibia for in-situ leach mining. In this interview, Wolfgang Teichert, Chairperson of the Stampriet Aquifer Uranium Mining Association (SAUMA), explains the figures, the assumptions behind them, and what they mean for the proposed Stampriet uranium project.

Agri Monitor 23 December 2025
